On January 20^th 2009, following the end of the Israeli operation in Gaza, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited the region to assess the damages resulting from the war waged on Gaza, meeting with various community leaders to discuss the post-war situation in the Gaza Strip. Mr. Al Zaeem briefed Mr. Ban Ki-moon on the current conditions and issues in the Gaza Strip, and provided specific suggestions for ways for the United Nations to assist the Gaza Strip in overcoming the crisis.
